What is iCon?
iCon is a virtual gaming convention. The goal is to help inform the public of the great Virtual Tabletop applications that are available and increase the number of online gamers in general.
What are Virtual Tabletops?
Virtual Tabletops are an emerging software application that enables players from around the world to 'sit around' a tabletop and enjoy roleplaying games, regardless of their geographical location. You would be amazed how many players around the world are not yet aware of these amazing applications.
How do I register for iCon?
If you are used to in-person conventions, you may be surprised to find out that iCon is totally free! Therefore there is no formal registration process to allow you entry into the convention, we would ask that you join our friendly forum so you can join us in discussions regarding VTs, talk to many of the VT developers personally, and enjoy a friendly gaming community.
Where do I find the events that run during iCon?
If you look at the top of the page, you will notice a 'Schedule' page link, this page will lead you to a Google Calendar we have set up for iCon. Viewing this page you can see all the events that have been officially scheduled for iCon. (Note that you may need to change the month the calendar displays to March.)
How do use the iCon Calendar?
There are different ways to view the calendar, for example, clicking on the 'Agenda' tab will bring up an hour by hour listing of the events at iCon.
This presents a nice easy way to view events across multiple days in a clear and concise manner. Once the Agenda is being displayed, you can learn more details about a particular event by clicking on the Green colored title of said event.
This will bring up a short
synopsis of the event, along with additional links to 'More Details' and a link to "Add to Calendar' at the bottom of the event entry. This second link will at this event to YOUR personal Google Calendar (if you have set one up with your Gmail account).
Clicking on the 'More Details' link will load a google calendar detail page with more details on the game and a link to the FUM
forums where the full details of the game can be found. If you have a personal Google Calendar, clicking the 'Add to Calendar' link will add this event to your personal Google Calendar.
Another way to view the calendar is the 'Month' view. This will show you all the
events being ran for the month, just like a calendar in Outlook or on your desk. Here, you may also click on a game title to get a short synopsis on the game. This displays the time frame for the game (in GMT if you are not logged into Google Calendar or in your local Timezone if you are logged in to your google account).
Here you also have the choice of the 'More Details' and "Add to Calendar' options.
Now that I have found an event, how do I sign up for it?
If you look at the top of the page, you will notice a 'Schedule' page link, this page will lead you to a Google Calendar we have set up for iCon. Viewing this page you can see all the events that have been officially scheduled for iCon. (Note that you may need to change the month the calendar displays to March.) For full details on viewing and using the calendar, see the previous question in the FAQ.
Once you have located the event you wish to participate in, signing up is a simple process. Click on the 'More Details' link, this will load a Google details page with a clickable link that will lead to the FUM Forums, and to the exact post that the GM made for his game. Here you should reply to that post stating that you wish to participate. Remember we said earlier you should register for our forums? ;-)
Who should I contact if I have a problem or cannot make it to a scheduled event I signed up for?
All event related issues or problems with events should be directed to the person running the event. In the case of the many games being ran, you should contact the GM running that game, most often directly using the our forum.
What is a roundtable discussion?
A Round table discussion is an event where we get people together, usually including people with a common interest or topic such as VT Developers or digital game map makers, and put them together with the common man on the street. These are open discussions where the users have a chance to interact directly with developers. Often these are fun and entertaining and users learn more about the people that develop the software we use and oftentimes information about the people doing the development. Snikle loves these events. ;-)
